SAI, a Mead & Hunt Company, prepared the Special Provisions and the supporting documents for resurfacing MD 197 from US 301 to Evergreen Parkway, approximately 0.72 miles.
The project included field measuring existing slopes and width of all pedestrian ramps, sidewalks and driveways, and consequently upgrading pedestrian ramps, sidewalks, driveways, intersection islands to meet the latest ADA design guidelines, MD SHA design criteria, “SHA Accessibility Policy and Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities along State Highways dated December 2005” and “Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG).
SAI, a Mead & Hunt Company, investigated all existing fire hydrants and utility poles within sidewalks that conflicted with the above design guidelines and proposed design alternatives such as providing bump-outs to avoid relocating fire hydrants and utility poles. The recommendations were summarized by preparing ADA waiver applications that were submitted to MD SHA for review and approval.
SAI, a Mead & Hunt Company, designed the upgrades for all existing W-beam traffic barriers and end treatments to meet the latest MD SHA design requirements. Prepared construction bid documents for roadway milling and resurfacing. Investigated existing storm drain pipes and upgraded pipes, inlets and manholes. Prepared erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, and maintenance of traffic plans and details. Such cases are illustrated in these pictures where ADA waivers were required.
